Never does a Royal Enfield owner ever end up looking for a reason to be proud about the bike he owns. Its cult status around the world is almost humbling and it is a neck-turner no matter where you ride on and how many ever (envious) acquaintances state otherwise. And it has made its impact on Jay Leno.
Tour of Rajasthan—again
Enfield seems to be particularly fond of two places: Ladakh and Rajasthan. Those are where they have had most biking trips to as far as I can tell.
Come 9th October and about 25 select bikers will be all-prepared to tour Rajasthan this year. And, no, I will not be going. I do not have the time. And I blame it—naively—on Luigi Lilio.
As the Enfield website puts it,
The tour of Rajasthan is a tour far off the beaten tracks.
It promises to test your grit and build your talent on the famed deserts and ride some of the best tarmac in the country.
Ride on routes that few ever ride on, country roads, sand dunes, hills, jungles, highways as good as landing strips, a dry salt lake and all with little or no traffic. Then there’s the border road where yours will be the only vehicle passing through the famous 1971 battle sites.
And we pay homage to a temple devoted to a Royal Enfield Bullet. The ride will coincide with the Marwar Festival at Jodhpur.
Sumptuous Rajasthani meals and breathtaking monuments is a treat at almost every stop. Stay has been organised at heritage properties, a castle hotel, a palace and luxury dune tents.
We have found another elusive rider’s paradise with the challenge of sand crossings.
Enrollment to the trip is through the form made available on the company website, here. And while you are at it…
Jay Leno adds an Enfield to his garage
Alright, so this is old news. It is about a month old, but it is interesting nonetheless. Enfield motorcycles, now manufactured only in India and exported all over the world, have got a production surge since their revolutionary Unit Construction Engines came out. And Jay Leno bought an Enfield 350cc Electra last month and is said to be prominent around Los Angeles, riding it around before/after his shooting of his Tonight Show.
