13 Expectations from iOS 10 default apps

I previously wrote an article on what I hope to see in iOS 10, Apple's upcoming mobile operating system. While a lot of that focussed on the OS itself (including a section on being able to dispose of stock apps) I want address what functionality I'd like to see in these stock apps. This is especially important for people like me who prefer a simple but powerful setup and therefore try to rely on stock apps as far as possible.

The stock Notes app received a major overhauls with iOS 9, and it shows because I have no suggestions for it whatsoever. Following that route map, Apple has to start "overhauling" its other applications as well.

Natural language input in the Calendar is a sorely missing feature. It is present on OS X but the glaring omission on iOS is something that has kept me in surprise; however its presence on OS X is a sign that it may make it to iOS soon.

Selected list overview in Reminders app would be helpful. Perhaps this will demand the creation of new “list types” such as reminder list and checklist so all checklists or all reminders can be viewed together.

Smart lists would be helpful too, parenthetical to list overviews mentioned above. Wunderlist implements this beautifully: automatic organisation of tasks due today, this week etc. would make the barebones Reminders app as useful as it should be.

Reminders as calendar entries just make sense on so many levels. Fantastical does this. Reminders with due-by dates or alarms should show up on the calendar.

Podcasts within Music like it was before also makes sense. Having everything I listen to in one package is just better. I fear paid podcasts starting to pop up if this does indeed happen, but I have no problem if this gets included in my existing Apple Music subscription — with no price rise.

Snooze in Mail is another overlooked feature. And the app can do well with generally better swipe options: three for swiping left and one for swiping right never made sense to me. The ability to hide iCloud mailbox for those like me who never use it would be helpful too.

Photos needs a major overhaul. That's all.
